KATZRoofing: 4 Weeks of Revitalization

In the month of October, I decided to push myself to see how much value I could create for KATZRoofing.

I developed a plan to generate reviews, leads, and sales for KATZRoofing. I also managed to revamp their website and increase their SEO score to hopefully generate more traffic to their company.

What is KATZ?

KATZ is a roofing company that provides hassle-free services to one’s home. They specialize in roofs, but they also provide repairs to gutters, sidings, and the building of decks. They offer free quotes and estimates to the housing and deal with communicating with insurance companies, so you do not have to!

Here is my week by week progress :

Click on each week to see what I did!

Week 1: In week 1, I used MailChimp to generate reviews for their company.

Week 2: In week 2, I redesigned the KATZRoofing website.

Week 3: In week 3, I was able to create a Lead List for a roofing company with little experience.

Week 4: In week 4, I created a cold call script, and personally contacted the leads that I created.

Goals

My goal for this month was to learn more about hands-on marketing skills by driving more business to KATZRoofing. I will be honest, it was a bit overwhelming to think about the scope of the project at the start. However, by taking this project day by day and by developing a task management system that worked for me, I was able to see the results from my work pay off.

Here’s What I Learned :

This was a huge step for me because I was able to prove to myself that I could provide real value to a startup company.

Here is what I accomplished :

Generating Reviews for KATZRoof

  • Gather Information from Previous Sales
  • Compile Email Addresses into MailChimp
  • Advertise $50 Lottery for those who leave a review
  • Designed MailChimp Mass Email

Redesigned KATZRoof Website

  • More User-Friendly
  • Designed Separate Mobile Site
  • Added ways to contact the company — Form, Email, Phone
  • Linked Social Media Accounts
  • Linked Blog Posts
  • Improved SEO

Created the Lead List

  • Communicate effectively with the CEO to determine the best way to approach creating a lead list.
  • Research weather reports between 2015–2020 in specific areas of the country.
  • Used Google Earth to “visit” targeted neighborhoods.
  • Used public databases to research information about the home including square footage and age.
  • Used WhitePages to obtain contact information from the homeowner.
  • Compiled List into an easy to read/access spreadsheet.

Personally Contacted Homeowners from the Lead List

  • Listened to hours of real cold calls
  • Developed my own cold call script
  • Use the script to contact over 70 homeowners
  • Visited targeted neighborhoods with hundreds of Halloween Themed Goodie-Bags with KATZRoofing contact information
  • Schedule 2 free roof inspections — One that led to a sale for the company!

Not everything goes according to plan. This includes scheduling meetings with people that you need information from, your vision not being the same as someone else’s vision, or even cold calls not going the way you anticipated.

Despite all of the challenges you may face, always try to find different approaches to solving your problem. Look for ways that you can expand on others’ ideas and suggest it to them before spending time implementing it!

I also have a newfound respect for those in sales roles. In my first 25 phone calls, I had a sour experience. Between people just hanging up or being rude, you cannot let that demotivate you. Sales is a numbers game, and someone will eventually bite! After all, you are providing a service to help improve their life.

It is okay to reach for high goals that you set out for yourself. Even if you do not achieve those goals — you end up learning valuable skills along the way. You also may have generated the numbers that you did because you reached for a higher goal.

Also, be proud of the work that you accomplish. I have never tackled a project of this size. In the beginning, I was not even sure that I had the confidence to see this project till the end. Now, when I go to tackle other projects, I can look back at what I achieved in this one. I know what I can accomplish and I am excited to see what I can accomplish next!
